The rain in Mumbai continues and with it, thousands of problems. The easiest thing to do is to blame the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for their high-handedness and under-preparedness in handling monsoons every year.

Sure, the BMC is the governing body of the city, and it is its responsibility, along with other bodies such as the MMRDA, and Western and Central Railway to ensure that the drainage system is in order, potholes are fixed, and bridges are sturdy enough to not collapse or develop cracks.

Yet, in the past fortnight, the city has witnessed bridge collapses, roads caving in and at least 35 deaths due to the heavy spell of rains.
